Convenience is a recently introduced term. In earlier times, there was nothing which was convenient. At that time, there was no convenient food, convenient recipes, and convenient restaurants. The ingredients, which were used in the food, were extracted from plants and various other sources in a much hard way. It was in those times herbs and spices were the most prominent ingredient of every cuisine and which handed down from one generation to another.
In current times, the use of herbs and spices are used in few kitchens. However, in recent times, their use has increased significantly. The reason behind this surge in popularity can be due to the growing health awareness. Apart from that, their soothing taste takes us back to our old golden childhood, in our mother's kitchen.
Use of herbs while cooking food dates back to prehistoric times. In those times, eating benefits was more essential than the taste itself. This was the reason, the herbs which were medicinally used at first found their place in our kitchens. It was much later the spice came into use in our kitchens. They were initially exported by the Arabian traders. After a brief period, Europeans and Americans got involved in spice trading and moved all around the world in search of them. These traders moved all around the world, in search of best spices, and brought them back home. It was due to such efforts we came across herbs and spices and started using them in our cuisines.
